Obviously, I’ve been on a kick writing about people who are important to me. I finally finally wrote something about someone I know in real life, because listen…
It’s no secret how I feel about role models. I am the biggest advocate for them, urge everyone to have at least one, and although it’s quite small and exclusive, rejoice every time my personal lady heroes club adds a new member. I think this is particularly important for girls, and I can’t say that enough. It’s so tough being a girl, especially today, so we need women to look to as role models and example setters.
A lot of people find that in someone famous or noteworthy, which is fine. It’s great. My lady heroes club, for your information, consists of mostly celebrities: Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Audrey Hepburn, Stevie Nicks.
But what’s the absolute greatest is when you can find a hero in a real life person, which I have been lucky enough to have. So I wrote about her. I’ve known her since I was 14 (she was my math teacher at one point, so a little math for you: that’s 40% — nearly half — of my life.)
She’s amazing, I can’t speak highly enough of her, and I hope I can have the same influence on someone someday as she has had on me. Now go read!
